Gaffer on George’s psychological improvements

Alex winger George Cooper scored his first goal of pre-season at the weekend in the victory over Nantwich, and his manager Steve Davis has backed the youngster to continue his development both on and off the pitch.

The 18-year-old looks set to be a big part of the management team’s plans this season, with continuing psychological improvement coming as a big boost to Steve Davis ahead of the kick-off.

Steve told crewealex.net: “He’s having a go. He wasn’t very successful in the first half [at Nantwich] but he did a bit better in the second half.

“He can produce bits of quality like that but he’s just got to produce more of it and make better decisions. If we can get him doing that then he’ll keep his place in the team and start the season. He knows that, we’re just trying to help him as much as we can. He’s working very hard, and he’s listening at the moment so it’s good.

“We need to try and help him with that psychological part of his game. It’s better than it was, but that’s still a work in progress in aspects of how he shows his disappointment on the pitch and his decision making.”
