Davis moves on from Leigh to target new possible loan left-back
Steve Davis has reiterated to the club’s official web-site that he has moved on from signing left-back Greg Leigh and that he was already enquired about taking another one on loan for the new season.
Leigh, 20, made 42 appearances for the Railwaymen last season on loan from Manchester City and Davis had hoped to convert that arrangement into a more permanent one following his release from the Premier League giants this summer, but Crewe couldn’t match his personal demands and have transferred their attention elsewhere.
Steve Davis explained to crewealex.net: “I made no secret of the fact that I wanted Greg on a permanent deal and that he was my first choice after the season he had, but we couldn’t get near what he and his agent were asking.
“I’ve had no dialogue now with his representative for over two weeks and I have moved on from that. It is one of those things and I have already enquired about another left-back.
“He is going to be a part of his club’s pre-season preparations, so it may be that if we have to wait a bit longer for that one. If we can get that type of quality in but have to wait a little while then they would. I just want the best players we can get to improve the team and I don’t mind having to be patient.
“We need a left back, preferably one who can also play left wing back. That will give us the flexibility if we need to change things. They are not that easy to find but we do have some options in mind.”
