Crewe youngster to miss start of the season.
"It is difficult to put a time limit on the recovery but we will be without him for a while. We have four midfielders here after getting three new ones, so we are okay for numbers. If anything was to happen to one of those then we would have to consider a loan but at the moment we are fine in that position."
"We have sent him to the best person available for this type of injury and he has advised us that it is better to operate now and not risk it going again at some point in the season. He is a young player and we will do what is best for him. His welfare comes first.
Steve told the club's official web-site after the 3-0 win at Newcastle: "Jonah's shoulder popped out against Alsager and it is something that has happened before. There is a weakness there and he will need an operation to make sure it is right and repair the damage there.
Although boss Steve Davis is reluctant to put a time span on it healing, the Scotland Youth International looks set to miss the first month of the season at the very least.
Crewe Alexandra have been dealt a harsh set-back just weeks before the big kick-off with the news that James Jones will need surgery to rectify a shoulder problem. The club's Breakthrough Player Of The Season last time out is set to undergo an operation on his shoulder after it popped out of the groove again against Alsager Town. Jones, who has developed into a key player under Steve Davis visited a specialist this week after the injury re-occurred and he has advised surgery instead of continuing to go with it until it happens again.
