Haber On Gold Cup Heartache

Our Canadian forward looks back at the International Tournament

Crewe Alexandra striker Marcus Haber caught up with Crewe Alex Player HD after being away with the Canadian national side competing in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, a competition of similar prestige to our European Championships.

Canada were knocked out in the group stages after a goalless draw with El Salvador, narrow loss to finalists Jamaica and further 0-0 stalemate with Costa Rica – a game in which Marcus thought he’d scored the winning goal to take his nation through, only to be denied by the linesman’s flag.

Haber told Crewe Alex Player HD: “It was a great experience. It was a major tournament and it was unfortunate with the way it turned out but playing in three good games against good international opponents was good experience for sure.

“We were a bit unlucky, especially in front of goal in the last game against Costa Rica. That’s football though, it’s a game of inches and it happens sometimes. When the goal went in I thought yeah this is great, we’re going through to the Quarter-Finals. I might have been an inch or two offside but on another day the lineo doesn’t give it and we go through.

“I take away from it a good experience and I’m happy to be back with Crewe now.”
