Steve Davis challenges Saunders to propel himself forward with goals.
Steve Davis has challenged his talented young striker Callum Saunders to score the goals to propel himself into his first-team plans this pre-season. Saunders got a taste of first-team action during the last campaign. After making his senior debut as a substitute away at Fleetwood on the opening day of the season, when he won a late penalty with a clever run in behind, the Turkey-born hit-man went on to make a further five appearances, including starts at Leyton Orient and Sheffield United in the FA Cup.
The 19-year-old will now be looking to make a suitable impression during the pre-season fixtures and show that he has pushed on from his debut season.
Steve Davis told crewealex.net: “Callum’s first aim to do well in pre-season. We have told him that and he has six weeks to become really fit and show what he can do.
“He has had a taste of it last season. He knows what it is about now and knows the level. He has played half a dozen games at the level now and he knows what to expect. Now he has to push on and score goals in pre-season.
“He has been working on his physique because he knows he has to develop that side of things. Callum’s main asset is that he scores goals. He is a natural goal scorer and I was playing to bring in another forward so that is the challenge for him.”
