Boss To Step-Up Left-Back Chase

28 July 2015

The number one priority is now to secure a full-back

Steve Davis has targeted a new first choice left-back by the end of the week as he looks to firm up his preparations ahead of the big kick-off against Port Vale next weekend.

The position is one Davis has been hunting for all summer after former loanee Greg Leigh opted not to sign permanently for the Club, and it now appears he is close to sealing his target.

Steve told crewealex.net: “The left-back one is very close. We’re still having dialogue with a Club about that. They’ve obviously kept him because of the games and the cover that he’s provided for the first team, which is what the Under 21’s and the squad players are for, so we have to respect that.

“The back-up plan if that doesn’t work is another kid from the Premiership who is very similar to the one we’d like and he’s a good replacement. Either of them would be better than what we’ve had previously.

“You have to be very patient with these things but we’re hoping to do that this week. We don’t want to go into the last week before the first game before we nail that position down.”
