Steve Davis delighted to have one of his major targets signed on a permanent basis.
Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that his first permanent signing of the summer, Billy Bingham, is a player he and his staff have been tracking for a while. The club scout Chris Johnson has watched the midfielder play for Dagenham and Redbridge on numerous occasions and has been admirer of his game since his earlier days with Crystal Palace.
Bingham, 24, penned a two-year deal yesterday and Davis is sure the Londoner will settle into life in South Cheshire fairly quickly.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Billy has been one of our transfer targets from the very beginning. Our scout Chris (Johnson) has been instrumental in that. He watched him a few times last season and has noted his progress ever since he came through at Palace.
“He had his most productive season at Dagenham and he has shown real improvement with the experience he has been able to get. We spoke to him very early on and made our intentions known.
“Then it was a question of getting him up here, doing our homework on him and I was happy with what he had to say when I met him face-to-face. He enjoyed the experience of coming up to Crewe and having a look around and he spoke about Crewe all the way back to London, so we were delighted that he felt he wanted to come here and improve as a player.
“He fits the DNA of a Crewe player. He is a god footballer and he is heading in the right direction in his career. He is a good character and we confident that he will step up into this league. He has played in the league before when he was younger and handled it well.
The boss added: “He is a left footer, who likes to get on the ball and he can pick those passes. He can create goals and has scored a few. We are not putting any pressure on him. He will need a bit of time to settle and adjust but we know we are getting a quality player. I am delighted to have him. “
