Barber Returns As Goalkeeping Coach

7 July 2015

Fred Barber back at the club to work with club's goalkeepers.

Vastly experienced coach Fred Barber has returned to the club to work once again with the highly-rated Ben Garratt. Steve Davis was keen to bring back the former Northern Ireland and Bolton goalkeeping coach following his successful six month spell in the job last season.

Barber was employed as coach to Garratt and later the incoming Paul Rachubka following Scott Shearer’s departure to Burton Albion on loan for the second half of the season.

Barber’s arrival means that Davis will now look for a goalkeeper to offer competition and cover to the England Youth International Garratt.

Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “I am pleased to have secured Fred as our goalkeeping coach for next season. He is a good guy and a great coach. He works hard and he works the goalkeepers hard and he wants to improve them.

“He wants to make Ben into a goalkeeper that will interest other clubs and we should get good money for him and there is no reason why that cannot happen.

“Fred fits in well here with the staff. He is a bubbly character and he good around the place when things are going well and even more so when things are not going so well.”
