Atkinson Ready To Fight For Place

17 July 2015

Chris Atkinson relishing the challenge to force his way into new-look midfield.

Chris Atkinson has exclusively told Crewe Alex PlayerHD that the summer signings of David Fox, Billy Bingham and youngster Adam King has only acted as a spur. The attack-mined midfielder is relishing the challenge to force his way into Steve Davis’ plans for the opening game of the season against Port Vale on 8th August.

The 23-year-old told us: “The pre-season has been going well and those double sessions we have been doing will only benefit us later on in the season. We have been doing weights, football and then running in the afternoon most days.

“Training has been intense and the work load has been higher. All the hard work will be worth it.

“The pre-season games are about building up for that start of the season. We have had 45 minutes each and that will build up to an hour and then the 90 minutes as we go on.

“You have to try and stake your claim in the matches and in training. It is your chance to impress the manager and his staff and I am ready for the challenge. The manager has brought in three midfield players but I like the competition.

“They are all decent players and them coming in has only added to the intensity in training with everyone competing to get into the team.”
