Only Guthrie and Tootle rated as doubts for Vale trip
Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has revealed that only Jon Guthrie and Matt Tootle remain as doubts for tomorrow’s local derby at Vale Park. The meeting with the Valiants may have come too soon for club captain Tootle as he aims to recover from his ankle injury.
Guthrie has been rated as a doubt all week after he injured his knee when conceding the penalty at Notts County.
Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “Jon has been a doubt all week and he has been touch and go to make it. His injury is not too serious but we have to be cautious.
“He jarred his knee badly when he conceded the penalty at Notts County. Their lad has come in higher than him and caught his knee.
“If Jon doesn’t make it then we have options. We have George (Ray) available, Duggy and Anthony Stewart so it could give someone else a chance.
He added: “Any of those three are good enough to step into the defence. We will see but what I do know is that the squad is as squad at the moment as it has been at any other point in the season.”
