Steve: "Players Embrace These Games"

22 January 2015

Steve Davis says both set of players always look forward to the atmopshere of derby day

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is confident his players possess the right temperament to handle this weekend’s local derby at Vale Park. Crewe head to the home of the Valiants looking to record the club’s first ever League double over our local rivals having already won the home game 2-1 back in September.

With Crewe needing points to exit the bottom four and Port Vale looking to win to keep their own play-off aspirations alive, it will only add to the occasion.

Ahead of this weekend’s derby clash, Steve told us: “We're looking forward to going there. Our performances have been good, we still look a threat. We just need to improve on little things and have more of our players playing to their potential. The main focus is to try to get three points.

“The task is always tough at Vale Park, I'm not sure back-to-back wins have ever been achieved in the same season.

“They are always great games. It's always a tense affair and an action-packed game. It's important the lads keep calm and in control, and focus on the game rather than what is going on in the stands.

Steve added: “I think temperament is the vital thing and I think my players have good temperaments.”
