Steve: "MK Dons Were Clinical"

31 January 2015

Alex boss gives us his post-match reaction following heavy home defeat

Steve Davis hailed the MK Dons as the best team in League One as they inflicted a 5-0 defeat on his Crewe Alexandra side. The MK Dons were clinical in their finishing and led 3-0 at the break thanks to two goals from the on-loan Devante Cole and another from Dean Bowditch. Second half goals from Carl Baker and Daniel Powell in the final minute sealed the points in emphatic fashion.

The Alex boss did praise his Crewe side for their continued effort though in what proved a tough afternoon for the Railwaymen.

Steve told the club's official web-site: “It’s difficult to sum up. It wasn’t massively one sided at it seems, but they were very good in both boxes and that was the difference. They were very clinical, particularly first half.

“We were poor in that period defensively. Little clips over the centre halves and the strikers shouldn’t get in that easily. I thought at times we did okay, but we’re very disappointed with the manner of the goals.

“We knew the extent of what we were up against. Winning last week was important going into this game. We changed it at half-time and went a bit more adventurous second-half going man for man at the back but we couldn’t get the breakthrough and again they got goals with little things that dropped to them in the box.

“The difference was really the quality they’ve got in terms of the whole team. They’re all comfortable on the ball. We tried to get close to them but we couldn’t, and we ended up chasing shadows at times.

“We’ve got a big month in February against the teams around us and we’ll have to dust ourselves down and go again for those important games.”
