Players Deserve Credit For Run

15 January 2015

Boss says that going unbeaten in four games should not be underestimated in this division

Steve Davis has praised his players for building up some real momentum over the Christmas and New Year period. Crewe travel to Notts County this weekend after collating 10 points out of their last four matches against opponents Bristol City, Oldham, Preston North End and more recently Gillingham.

Davis says that mini-run has given his side a real fighting chance of surviving the drop this season and after moving out of the bottom four, he now wants his team to look upwards and attempt to claw more teams into the relegation scarp at the bottom.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “The league table usually finds it level and it is usually determined by finances. Of course, there are one or two who may surprise you and overachieve. Oldham and Walsall started well and were up there but they have found it difficult to sustain that.

“You will often see four or five teams clawed back into it and we want to be going in the opposite direction.

“Other than perhaps the top three or four clubs, it is very difficult for any club at this level to go and win five or six on the trot. It is hard to do and you have to be realistic about these things.

“Any club can beat anyone on their day and we best demonstrated that by beating Bristol City, who were then top of the league when we were bottom.

He added: “The players deserve great credit for showing some real consistency and for going unbeaten for four games. We managed to win three of those as well against some tough teams and that has given us a chance. It is amazing how quickly things can change and the loan players have certainly helped us achieve that.”
