Steve Davis has praised the improvement shown by his on-loan left-back Greg Leigh. The 20-year-old didn’t hesitate to re-sign until the end of the season after establishing himself in the Crewe starting line-up during the first half of the season.

Leigh, who made his debut for the club away at Barnsley, just hours after being picked up on the motorway en route to the League Cup encounter, has come a long way in a short space of time.

The Alex boss says he was eager to extend Leigh’s loan agreement after holding talks with his parent club Manchester City.

He told the club’s official web-site: “Greg has improved and is improving all the time. That is the main reason why we were keen to keep him.

“If he had stood still or hit his level then we would have looked for an alternative, but he is going in the right direction and is learning by the experience.

 “Greg has come up to speed, has adjusted to the demands and intensity of this league and he has shown great improvement.”
