Run out for first-team hopefuls in Cheshire Senior Cup

Goalkeeper Joe Anyon could feature for Crewe Alexandra in the Cheshire Senior Cup this evening if the match against 1874 Northwich gets the go ahead at Gresty Road. The club will be holding a pitch inspection at 2pm ahead of the evening kick-off.

Anyon has signed non-contract forms for the club but is short of match fitness following his release from Shrewsbury Town last summer. The likes of George Ray, Adam Dugdale, Oliver Turton, Marcus Haber and Chris Atkinson are all expected to feature as well.

Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “If we have the opportunity to play then it will be a fairly strong side. It will give those who have not had the opportunity to play to get a run out. It is a good game to have to get the cobwebs off.

“It gives those players a chance to show they are worth a place in the first team as we prepare for Port Vale at the weekend.

“Joe will play. It will give us an opportunity to see how he is and have a better look at him. He is short of match fitness because he has not played a lot of football.”
