Stewart Could Feature At Right-Back

Boss not ruling out using the athletic defender in a different role

. Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says he may look to use the versatile Anthony Stewart as a right back again. Stewart played the second half of our defeat by MK Dons in that position and Davis has revealed that his athleticism may offer something different in that role

Stewart impressed enough to earn himself a contract until the end of the season and the Alex boss believes there is still more to come from the former Wycombe man.

Steve told crewealex.net: “I feel there is more to come from Anthony. He has stepped up a level into League One and he is still adjusting to the demands of that. It is a new experience for him coming up against players of the calibre of MK Dons and Preston but we have been pleased with his contribution so far. I’m sure he will just be looking for more game time.

“We tried him at right-back for the MK Dons and it could be a position we re-visit with him because he has great pace and strength to play in that position. It is something we will look at again and we are certainly not ruling him out as a centre-half.

“He just needs the experience of playing at this level. He still has things to learn and with Ant it will be about how quickly he can take things on board. His athleticism is very good but he knows that his decision making has to improve at times at his level.”
