Three great points for the Railwaymen thanks to Ajose's winnerAfter the 1-0 win, Steve Davis told crewealex.net: "
Certainly it could have been a more comfortable evening with the chances missed, but Davis was just delighted that his resilient side had seen it through.
Steve Davis was pleased that his hard working Crewe Alexandra side recorded back-to-back wins after securing a deserved 1-0 win over Yeovil Town this evening. Nicky Ajose netted his eighth goal of his loan spell to seal another important three points against a side that are down there with us to follow on from the 3-2 win over Colchester. The win puts seven points between the two sides and Davis has been delighted with the response of his players since the 5-0 home defeat by the MK Dons. He added: “Nicky has got a real hunger for scoring and there’s no better quality for a forward than that. He was disappointed when he came off, he’ll feel like he should’ve done better because he’s very hard on himself and sets very high standards. He’ll feel like he should’ve got at least two or three today but he’s won us the game despite that."
“Marcus did well for the goal, he’s got that little dart in his locker. He dropped his shoulder and delivered a great cross to Nicky. It was a great run and cross and Nicky did well to get between two defenders and put it in.
“They were dictating the first 20, 25 minutes a bit too much with Ajay getting on the ball, so we changed it back to the formation we used at the weekend and then we looked a lot better from then on.
“We should’ve made it easier in the end but I’m delighted with the clean sheet and the back-to-back results.
I said that Saturday was important but today was even more important, it was a big, big game for us. The lads have worked tremendously hard to give us a chance to turn things around and they’ve done terrifically.
