U18 Manager brimming with pride following Arsenal victory

Crewe Alexandra U18 Manager Alex Morris spoke of his immense pride after his side shocked Arsenal to progress to the FA Youth Cup Quarter-Finals.

Crewe won 3-2 on Monday night at The Hive, Barnet, thanks to goals from Liam O’Neill, Andre Brown and an og and will now face Manchester City at their Academy Stadium for the chance to face either Leicester City or Birmingham City in the Semi-Final.

Morris said: “It was a magnificent night for the boys. They showed two sides to their game, some quality in spells and defending, persistence and resilience as well. We fully deserved to win the tie on the balance of play.

“It was frustrating making the two seven-hour round trips. The circumstances of the game’s being called off was frustrating as well so the boys wanted to get down here and prove that they were the match for Arsenal.

“Earlier rounds, apart from the Preston game, had been pretty plain sailing for us, but the lads had to roll their sleeves up at Arsenal and show courage and bravery.

“It gets harder now. Manchester City and Chelsea are the flag bearers of Academy football at Under 18 level. They are the top elite level with the rest behind to varying degrees. The experience will be invaluable and unforgetful for the boys, we’re all looking forward to it.”
