Boss in line to reward emerging youngsters with new deals
Steve Davis says he will step up his desire to extend the contracts of members of his young squad. The Alex boss has told the club’s official web-site that he has opened tentative talks with certain players and he is hoping that they will follow the example of Harry Davis, who recently signed a new two-year contract with the club.
The Alex boss admits that it may take time to sign up the players he wants to form the basis of his team going forward, but he has been in discussions with Chairman John Bowler about rewarding some of his young players with improved terms.
Steve told crewealex.net: “With us trying to find a replacement for Uche (Ikpeazu) last week, contract talks of our own took a bit of backseat but I’ve spoken to the chairman and the board about rewarding some of our young players.
“I’ve had brief chats with one or two of them and that will continue. It takes a bit of time for the players and their agents to get to the right level to agree. It can take a while but we are hopeful that the players will come to the right decision and commit their futures here.”
