Mini-Break Has Allowed Us To Recover

Boss says break in mid-week has allowed one or two to get over knocks

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis is hoping that a mid-week break from games will revitalise his squad ahead of another busy period. The Alex have been playing Tuesday/Saturday/Tuesday in February and Davis says that the little break will have done his players some good.

The Alex are about to embark on another busy schedule of fixtures with two more mid-week encounters away at Rochdale and Bristol City coming up in March.

Ahead of the visit of Swindon Town this weekend, the Alex boss told crewealex.net: “I’m sure the players would have benefitted from the little break because it has been busy since the turn of the year.

“As a club we have five games coming up in seven days, so although we were disappointed to have lost against Macclesfield on Tuesday night, it would have been difficult for us to fit another fixture in.That could be a blessing really when you look at March.

“The break in mid-week has given the players a chance to mentally and physically recover. It has also provided us with an opportunity to look over things in more detail and reflect a bit.

The boss added: “It has also allowed a few of them with knocks to get over them. Granty and Ness had knocks from Barnsley but they are fine now and have trained well. I’m sure it has helped all of them and the players are ready and fired up after the disappointment of what happened in the second half at Barnsley.”
