Boss pleased with consecutive defensive shutouts
Steve Davis has paid tribute to his entire Crewe Alexandra side for top class defensive displays that have seen his side restrict the opposition to blanks in the last two games.Beating Yeovil 1-0 and Fleewood 2-0, as well as a 1-0 at Vale Park last month, Davis is delighted with his team's defending and insists the hard work in stopping the opposition is right through his side from front to back.
He said: “It’s the key really. Keeping things tight and not letting goals go in always gives you the chance of winning the game.
“You want to keep it tight particularly up to half-time, and then you’re in a good position to change things and push on if you feel that’s the right thing to do.
“Clean sheets breathe confidence for the back players and the goalkeeper. They’re doing their job, but also the defending starts at the front and the attackers have been working very hard to stop things coming through and the midfielders have been pressurising to stop those balls getting played through.
“It has a knock on effect though the team and it’s formed the backbone of this good run we’re on.”
