Boss Praise For Battling Turton

Turton fights back to reclaim a place in Crewe's starting XI

Steve Davis has praised the battling qualities of Oliver Turton after his Man-of-the-Match display against Yeovil Town last night. The versatile Turton was used at right-back to follow on from his recent recall at Colchester last week and he helped the Railwaymen keep a deserved clean-sheet against the Glovers with our goalkeeper Ben Garratt hardly tested over 90 minutes.

Turton recently lost his midfield spot to the emerging James Jones but his ability to play in defence as well and his work ethic has resulted in him earning a recall into the manager’s XI. Turton has been involved in every game this season except one when he was an unused substitute against MK Dons.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Ollie is a real battler. He works hard every day and puts everything into his training.

“He is a really fit lad with a talent. I just thought he was finding it hard going in midfield and he needed to come out of it for a bit. He had struggled for a bit but he had played at right back throughout the Academy and it was his way of getting back into the team.

“He did well in that position for the Under-21s recently and when things got a bit tough for James (Baillie) he was ideal to go in there. Ollie is an established player in this division now and has played consistently over the last couple of seasons and is well equipped to handle it.”
