Boss May Look To Freshen Things Up

Steve to assess squad before deciding on the team ahead of weekend's clash at Oakwell

Steve Davis will assess the tiredness of his Crewe Alexandra squad before deciding whenever to introduce fresh legs for this weekend’s trip to Barnsley.

The Alex boss praised his side’s efforts at Doncaster last night but admits that some of them were suffering with fatigue towards the end of the second half. The Railwaymen tried gallantly to hold onto a point but were finally beaten in the final minute when Richie Wellens fired past Ben Garratt with literally seconds remaining.

Steve said following the 2-1 defeat: “We had a few of them struggling towards the end of the game. They worked hard to try and keep them out but we needed to be a lot more effective in possession in the second half. We didn’t keep the ball well enough.

“That could have been down to a few tired minds and bodies and it may have been a game too far for some of them after Saturday’s game.

“We will have to assess how they are before we decide on what team to play at Barnsley. We had a few of them carrying knocks and Jamie Ness had been suffering with a virus but wanted to play.

“I may have to look at it and look to freshen things up because there has been a big demand on the players who have continuously started the last few games.”
