On loan starlet comes up trumps again for the Alex

Steve Davis was quick to once again praise the perseverance of his leading goal scorer Nicky Ajose after he was in the right place at the right time again to finish off Marcus Haber’s excellent cross last night.

The on-loan Leeds striker would have been disappointed to have scored one or two more with the chances he had, but a touch of luck wasn’t with him as he hit the post and pulled one inches wide in the second half.

Ajose did score the only goal of the game to seal a massive three points against Yeovil Town and left the pitch to a standing ovation when he was replaced late on for an extra defender in Anthony Stewart.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Nicky was disappointed not to have scored one or two more because he sets such high standards, but he has again come up with another winning goal for us.

“Even when he misses a chance, he still gets in there trying to create and score goals for the team. He is always on the move and he is very clever in and around the box. He was perhaps a bit unfortunate not to have scored a hat-trick with the one that hit the post and the one he put wide, but he keeps getting in there for us and if he keeps dong that then he will continue to score goals.

“When the ball was slipped down the wing to Marcus (Haber) I was encouraging him to take the defender on because he does have that little dart of pace in his locker. Defenders don’t like being pulled out wide like that and Marcus showed good feet, dropped his shoulder and put an excellent ball in.

“I’ve watched it over again and Nicky’s movement was superb. He had to get across two defenders to make sure he got there first and it was another terrific finish from him.”
