Wintle Has To Keep Impressing

Boss challenges Ryan Wintle to be the stand out player for the club's U-21s to go with his goals

Steve Davis has changed young midfielder Ryan Wintle to kick on after he was recently got a taste of first team action when coming off the substitutes’ bench. Wintle has had to wait patiently for his chance but was rewarded with a senior debut away at Bradford City and he has followed that up with short displays against Peterborough and Oldham.

The former Alsager youngster has been in good goalscoring form for the Under-21s, scoring five goals to earn himself a promotion to the first-team squad, but with the likes of the experienced David Fox and Brad Inman back to full fitness, the competition for places is really beginning to hot up as we enter the Christmas period.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Ryan has had a taste of it (first-team football) now and he knows that he has to push on and work hard to get more of it.

“I’ve spoken with Ryan and he knows that he has to play well and train well. He has to be the stand out player for the Under-21s. He has a good goalscoring record at that level but he can also influence the game more.

“He is still young, 19, and he has made a lot of improvement, over a short space of time. He knows he has a lot still to do and he knows that he will get his chances on merit.

“It is all about their performances and playing as well as they can.”
