We Didn't Do Enough Today

19 December 2015

Boss evaluates a performance of two halves.

"Of course, we want to be winning games like that and we tried to but when you don't perform as well as we can then it is also important not to lose."

"In the end it was a decent point because they could have snatched it and had the chances to do that. It could turn out to be a good point because we didn't hit the standard I expect from them in the second half. We didn't cope well enough and looked a bit nervous as the game entered the later stages. We want to be doing better than that and they know that.

"They seemed to play with more intent than us in the second half and in all honesty they looked the more likely side to win it. We didn't keep the ball well enough and didn't play well enough. I didn't think we did enough today to win the game. We probably did enough to draw the game and that is what we got. We had to many players playing under par.

"I was disappointed with their goal. It was a decent strike from Ball but I think Ben could have done better with it. I think he was at fault for the goal because it has gone through his hands a bit but he has pulled off two or three really good saves in the second half to make up for it. Fair play to Ben, he responded well from that set-back.

"Fleetwood came into it and kept the ball well at time and I think their footballers played better than our footballers during the second half today. Maybe there was a bit of nerves attached to that after what happened last week at Doncaster.

"We competed well in the first half and created some good opportunities and we limited them to only a few chances, so I was pleased with the way we approached the first half but we couldn't sustain it.

"It was a another top class finish from Ryan and that is what he is here for. He knows where the goal is and doesn't need a lot of space. He has that instinct to know where the goal is.

Following the 1-1 draw at Gresty Road, Steve told the club's official web-site: "If I was summing it up, I thought we played well in the first half and did well. We played some good football and got the early goal. We were disappointed that we couldn't hold onto that lead for longer than we did. We let them back into the game too quickly and we didn't have a chance to settle into the game and build on the start that Lowey gave us.

Steve Davis says he was relatively pleased with his side's first half performance against Fleetwood Town this afternoon but was left disappointed that we couldn't sustain that in the second period. A tight game ended 1-1 with Ryan Lowe on target for the Alex but in truth the Cod Army looked the more likely side to win it in the second half.
