U18: Crewe 1-3 Birmingham City

9 December 2015

Lunt's slide fall short against The Blues

Crewe Alexandra Under 18's succumbed to a league double defeat to Birmingham City after going down 3-1 at Reaseheath.

The Blues triumphed in just the second game of the season in the West Midlands in August too, but those two defeats make up two thirds of Crewe's total league defeats for the whole season.

A defensive mix-up early on gifted The Blues an opener, which they then double with a terrific strike from 18-yards.

Crewe struck back before half-time to make it 2-1 when Charlie Kirk's mazy run and cross was turned into his own net by a Birmingham defender.

The Alex pushed hard for an equaliser in the second period but it failed to materialize and instead The Blues restored their two-goal advantage and with it secure the points after another Crewe mistake allowed the striker a tap in.

Lunt's side have two more games for 2015, facing the bottom two in Hull and Barnsley, and will be hoping to end the year on a high.

Crewe: Hylton, Quinn, Wilkinson (Dale), Dowsett, Morgan, Riley (Pickering), Lundstram, Ainley, Kirk, Lowery, Higham (Griffiths)
