Positives To Take From Performance

14 December 2015

Alex boss was pleased with the quality of our goals and the fact that Saunders got off the mark.

minute with substitute Callum Saunders tapping home his first senior goal for the club, but we ended up losing the game deep into injury time with the referee awarding a soft free-kick and then over three minutes over the allocated time he had signalled at the end of 90 minutes.thSteve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that there were still some positives to take from Saturday’s cruel defeat at Doncaster Rovers. Crewe re-took the lead at the Keepmoat Stadium in the 90

The 3-2 defeat left the Alex dressing room distraught afterwards but Davis says it is also important to highlight some of the real positives coming out of the performance.

The Alex boss told crewealex.net: “We should have seen the game out after going ahead in the 90th minute but we didn’t and that is something we will have to learn from and make sure it doesn’t happen again.

It was good to see that come off.  “There were some positives to take from the game. We scored two excellent goals. They were well worked goals and we had worked on that and getting down the sides of the centre-halves, so that was very pleasing. We were able to get Ryan (Colclough) into those little pockets of space and we created two great openings to allow Marcus and Callum to get their tap-ins.

“It was a positive to see Callum get on the end of Ollie’s cross. I was delighted for him and if it had been the winner then that would have been brilliant for him and for us. It wasn’t to be but I’m sure his first goal will give him confidence.

He added: “We know he is a goalscorer and now he is off the mark, he has to build on that now. We are all pleased for him but we were just dejected with the way the game ended.”
