Boss pleased as his full compliment of senior midfield players fight for places.
Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis is pleased that some of his injured players are on the way back to offer cover and competition for places within the squad. Vice-Captain David Fox has shaken off his ankle knock to declare himself available for selection for the trip to Doncaster Rovers tomorrow. Fox picked up the slight injury in Monday’s 1-1 draw with Sheffield United as he stepped up his return from the back injury he sustained away at Blackpool back in October, but he has been able to train freely this week.
Steve Davis says that with Chris Atkinson (quad) also set to return to full training next week, the midfield area will be back to full strength as we enter the festive period.
The Alex boss told crewealex.net: “I haven’t been able to have all of our players fit at the same time and that can be difficult but we have a few back now and that only puts pressure on those in the team at the moment.
“It has increased the competition and means that the players with the shirts at the moment will have to play well to stay in the team. The injured players coming back will only add to the healthy competition.
“We have Billy and Jonah back to full-fitness now. Kingy has scored goals from midfield and now Foxy is back with us. They will soon be joined again by Chris, so the competition in that area is very good.
“It doesn’t matter what system you play, the engine room is very important and with the amount of games we have coming up, it will be crucial to have some legs in there. “
