Davis: "Players Showing Real Fight"

1 December 2015

Steve Davis praise for his players reaction following Posh defeat.

Steve Davis says his players are showing that real fighting spirit again that has seen us get out of trouble in the last two seasons. The Crewe Alexandra boss has been pleased with the way his young squad responded after being beaten 5-1 at home by an excellent Peterborough United side.

Crewe recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season to defeat fellow strugglers Colchester United and Oldham Athletic and in the process move us off the bottom for the first time in two months.

Following a well-earned 1-0 win over Oldham, Steve told crewealex.net: “Everyone can see what back-to-back wins can do for any team down there. It is a tight division and it can change quickly.

“Fleetwood got back-to-back wins and moved out of it quickly and our six points in a week sees us right back in it. We got ourselves off the bottom and now the aim to push on and move up the table.

“The players and staff are all working hard to turn things around and I cannot fault their effort. They are coming in every day and trying to improve.

“They have shown that real fight and giving it a real go. I don’t think we are doing anything differently in terms of our preparation or performance. Sometimes you get that bit of luck, the opposition don’t get it and the confidence grows.

“If something had dropped to Oldham in the closing stages and picked up a point then we would have been gutted but I thought we saw the game out really well. We managed the game well and as a young group they are learning.

He added: “We slowed the game down and have become harder to beat this season. We had defended relatively well in a lot of the games but haven’t scored goals at the other end to perhaps help us pick up more points than we should have.”
