Crewe Won't Appeal Cooper Red Card

22 December 2015

Steve Davis says George's dismissal in U-21 game was harsh but he says he won't appeal.

Crewe Alexandra will not appeal the red card issued to forward George Cooper during yesterday’s Development squad match against Hull City. Cooper was red card for apparently kicking out at an opponent but having viewed the footage, first team boss Steve Davis says the punished was harsh.

Cooper will miss an Under-21 match following the incident in the second half of the club’s 2-1 win over the Tigers at Reaseheath.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “George was sent off for apparently kicking out but he didn’t do it. The referee got that one wrong. He didn’t kick out. There was some pushing but he didn’t do what he was sent off for.

“George was adamant he hadn’t kicked out and having watched it back, he hasn’t done that much wrong. It was harsh and not a red card from my point of view.

“We won’t appeal it because it does not affect his involvement with the first team.”
