Boss: "Players Have To Play Well To Get A Move"

4 December 2015

Steve says he wouldn't be surprised if Coco or Garratt were on clubs radars after solid starts to the season.

Steve Davis admits that ‘he wouldn’t be surprised’ if Ben Garratt or Ryan Colclough were on some clubs wanted list once the transfer window reopens again for a month in January. The clubs’ Academy graduates have been two of our most consistent performers this season with Garratt earning some rave reviews for his goalkeeping and young forward Colclough topping our goalscoring charts with six goals in all competitions.

Davis believes that if they can continue to play well then he is sure there will be on the radar of potential suitors but he admits that he has had no interest as yet.

Steve told crewealex.net: “We are aware that the window opens again in January and of course we are in the business of giving young players a platform to play first-team football and if the timing is right then we allow them to go on to what we believe will be bigger and better for them.

“It is a model that has served us well over the many years, since Dario came into the club and although it is always evolving, it is something we believe in and encourage.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if the likes of Ben or Ryan have caught the eye of clubs with their performances. They are sure to have been mentioned and monitored.

“All I would tell all the players, if that you get noticed by playing well on a consistent basis. If they play well and we win more games then we move up the table as a club and then we get even more exposure.

“They have to concentrate on playing well and then we will see what might or might happen in January. There is not a lot you can do about it. You can only concentrate on the game and let the rest take care of itself.

The boss added: “I would say we have a few who can make that step up to the Championship now but we don’t have enough of them. If we did have 8 or 9 then we would be looking like a team that would be mid-table and looking to get a promotion run together. I would say we have a few more but need more and it’s up to them to step up and show they have the potential and the ability to make it.”
