Boss Calls On Saunders To Be Ruthless

1 December 2015

Steve Davis says youngster has to keep chalking up goals for Under-21s.

Steve Davis says that young forward Callum Saunders has to continue to score goals at Development Level to push himself forward for a recall to the first-team.

Saunders, 20, netted twice for the club’s Under-21s at Leeds yesterday but he is still searching for his first goal at senior level after appearances (9 as substitute).

Saunders came on as a second half substitute against Oldham on Saturday, replacing Ryan Lowe with 20 minutes left.

Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “Callum needs to keep on scoring goals for the Development squad and become more ruthless with his finishing. He scored twice at Leeds yesterday, he followed his penalty for the first one and his second was a well taken finish into the far corner.

“He had some chances to score again before he scored his second goal and there is where he needs to be ruthless. He was capable of scoring three or four yesterday and I want to be like that.

He added: “He makes some great runs in behind and when he gets on the end of those chances he has to take them.”
