Young Forwards Under Consideration

17 August 2015

Steve welcomes competition for places from his three youngsters.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says he will consider recalling his young forwards after they have all made an impact as substitutes this season. The Crewe boss has stressed that everyone remains in his thinking as he looks to discover that winning formula for the first time this season.

Ryan Colclough certainly made a nuisance of himself when he came off the bench at Glanford Park on Saturday and he was disappointed not to have got off the mark for the season with the chances he had in the final 25 minutes. Callum Saunders was also introduced as a sub and went close to reaching a Jon Guthrie knockdown as Crewe tried to get themselves back into the game.

Fellow Academy graduate George Cooper remained an unused substitute in the 2-0 defeat by Scunthorpe but he threatened the goal on more than one occasion against Preston North End in the Capital One Cup.

Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “George, Ryan and Callum are three very young players but they have come off the bench and caused problems.

“Ryan came on at Scunthorpe and he caused some problems because he is prepared to run at players and commit defenders.

“He is capable of that and he is up for consideration like everyone else. He did well at Coventry last season, scored a good goal and had a hand in another. Brad (Inman) has also done well at Coventry in the past and sometimes certain players do well at certain grounds. They enjoy playing certain opponents so that is also something we have to consider.”
