U21: Crewe 0-3 Charlton

10 August 2015

Young development side lose out to Athletic

Crewe Alexandra U21's lost-out in the opening fixture of the new 2015/16 campaign against a strong, athletic Charlton side.

Two early goals put the visitors in control and a further effort late on won it for The Addicks after their senior side also pulled-off an impressive victory in The Championship on Saturday.

Charlton took the lead on eight minutes, the number ten's shot hitting the post and unluckily for Dave Richards, hitting the goalkeeper's back and bouncing into the net.

Four minutes later and it was two, Richards sending the Charlton winger tumbling in the box, with their number nine coolly slotting in the penalty.

Crewe passed the ball around neatly but struggled to create many clear-cut opportunities, the best falling to winger Liam O'Neill on 83 minutes after Joe Howell's clever lofted pass, but Liam hit the side-netting with his shot.

A minute from time and Charlton completed their victroy, a long ball over the top being chased by the pacy number 14 substitute striker and he slotted past Richards from ten-yards.

Crewe: Richards, Baillie, Kearns, Mullarkey (Ainley, 78), Dowsett, Wintle, Howell, O'Neill, Colclough (Finney, 66), Cooper, Saunders
