Sure There Will Be A Handshake

7 August 2015

Boss on the visit of our former players this weekend.

Steve Davis says that it is a compliment to the work we do at Crewe Alexandra to see so many ex-Crewe players potentially in the Port Vale squad. Robert Page has seven former Crewe Alexandra players in his squad, although midfielder Michael O’Connor is ruled out of a potential return to Gresty Road with a knee injury.

Uche Ikpeazu, Anthony Grant and AJ Leitch-Smith have all signed this summer and they join former reds Adam Yates, Colin Daniel and Byron Moore at Vale Park.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “There are a number of our former players at Port Vale but that happens in football. I don’t think there are many games now where there isn’t a former player or a connection somewhere.

“I think that is a compliment to the work we do here. It is good to see our former players staying in the game and having a good career.

“We know all about the players they have. I have worked with most of them and know their strengths and weaknesses and so will our players, as the majority of them would have trained with them. There won’t be too many surprised and I’m sure Rob is fully aware of our squad as well.

The boss added: “I am sure there will be a handshake and a few words with them tomorrow. Players move on and they often than not have to face a former team at some point. We wish them all well, just not tomorrow afternoon.”
