Steve: "Mixed Feelings After That"

22 August 2015

Steve Davis gives us his post reaction follwing entetaining 3-3 draw.

The boss added: "The boys stuck at it and kept going and we deserved to get the equaliser. We worked hard and showed some great character again to get something but I've got mixed feelings because it was a point gained but if we had defended better then we could have won comfortably."

"The fitness isn't an issue and they responded well from going 3-2 behind. I thought we had a really good spell and finished the game strongly, but again across the 90 minutes we have done some good things and some bad things. We have got to do better. We got a great start, what we wanted but we sat back and invited pressure onto ourselves. We allowed them back into the game, and we have conceded some stupid goals.

"That is the problem we have. We have scored five goals in two games and have only got a point. If we manage to score that amount of goals then we should be winning games and we can only do that if we can keep the ball out of the net. we have got to stop them having chances and we are not doing that. We haven't been doing our jobs well enough defensively.

"We got out battled a bit at times and weren't picking up those second balls, and uncharacteristically Ollie got turned for the first goal but he didn't have any cover over there to help him. It was a collective thing and we didn't defend well and we backed off a lot today. We didn't engage the opposition enough to stop them playing.

Following a thrilling 3-3 draw, Steve told the club's official web-site: "I thought the football was good again. The ball retention was good and I thought we looked dangerous at times. We had a really good spell in the second half when we were finding those players in the pockets and we caused them some problems, but the goals we conceded were horrific. I cannot explain some of the defending and with some of the decisions they were making. That isn't how we practice, that isn't the decisions we make in the week. That is what we will be looking at next week.

Steve Davis was pleased with certain aspects of our performance against Bury this afternoon but he was rightly frustrated by the three goals we ended up conceding to newly promoted Bury. The Alex led twice in the first half but found themselves behind in the encounter by the hour mark. It took another solo effort from Brad Inman to draw us level and a well deserved point takes us out of the bottom four in the early part of a long season.
