Port Vale Paper Review

What the press made of the opening day derby stalemate

The Sentinel
PORT Vale ended their three-game losing streak against Crewe, but were forced to settle for a goalless draw in the season-opener at Gresty Road.
The Valiants had the better of the chances, but Ben Garratt denied their best effort with a brilliant save from Louis Dodds on the stroke of half time.
Crewe went close when Brad Inman and Lauri Dalla-Valle had efforts blocked in a 24th-minute goalmouth scramble, but that was against the run of play after the Valiants had enjoyed much the better of the opening stages.
Alex keeper Garratt was deservedly made man of the match after denying Uche Ikpeazu and substitute Enoch Andoh after the break.

The Chronicle
Crewe Alex held on for a battling point against Port Vale in the opening game of the season at Gresty Road on Saturday.
The Railwaymen were second best for much of the match and were grateful to an outstanding display from keeper Ben Garratt.
But they showed resilience and determination to take a share of the spoils in the first goalless draw between the sides since 1999.
