Manager's Faith In Forwards

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he remains confident that his front three will soon get on the scoresheet. The Alex boss has kept faith with the same front three in the opening two games of the season, but he has elected to change things in the second half with the introduction of youngsters George Cooper and Ryan Colclough.

Ahead of this weekend’s trip to Scunthorpe, Steve told crewealex.net: “I have selected the same team in both games and they deserved the shirts from the way they were in pre-season. It is up to the other players to push them all the way and try and force their way into the team.

“The forward players have not been able to get on the scoresheet yet but I have faith in them that they will. They have had some chances and have scored goals in the past. It is important to keep giving them opportunities and see if they can gel more as a three. Lauri and Brad combined well for the goal on Wednesday.

“Marcus was also denied his first goal because of a terrific save from the Preston keeper. They can all create and score goals and I’m sure they will. The season is only two games in and we just hope that they can get a goal to give them that extra confidence to go on and score more.

“Saying that they know that there are players here who can take their place if they don’t perform. You cannot keep going on forever and there would come a time when you look to change and give others a chance. I know we have players here who can score goals and it is just about getting into those positions and taking those opportunities.

“Hopefully those first goals are not too far away.”
