Swansea's Stephen Kingsley delighted by Crewe loan switch
Steve Davis’ patience in the transfer market finally paid off when we landed his first choice left-back Stephen Kingsley on loan. The Swansea City defender has joined on a 93-day emergency loan and if the club receive Premier League and Football League clearance he will be available for this weekend’s trip to Wigan Athletic.
The Stirling-born Kingsley can play in various positions and although still only 21 has obtained invaluable playing experience from an early age. Having broken into the Falkirk first team at 16, Kingsley made over 100 appearances for the Scottish side before he joined Swansea City for an undisclosed fee in June 2014.
He has been involved in the Swansea first-team squad for the last two pre-season campaigns and he enjoyed a successful loan spell at Yeovil Town in League One last season. He made 12 league appearances for the Glovers and played alongside our new summer signing Ben Nugent. His versatility has seen Stephen play both centrally and at full-back, as well in midfield.
Kingsley has also represented Scotland at Youth level up to and including Under-21 level.
November, Stephen told Crewe Alex PlayerHD: “I know Crewe have been trying to sign me for a few months but it can always be difficult in pre-season when you are coming back in and trying to get fit for the new season. thAfter signing on loan until 26
“I was selected to go with the first-team at Swansea and that was a great opportunity for me to gain that type of experience. I enjoyed that but once the season came around I knew it would difficult to get competitive games at Swansea, so I wanted to come on loan to Crewe.
“This is the right move for me and I am looking forward to it. I am excited to meet the boys and get going. There is no substitute for competitive matches and I want to get some games under my belt.
“I played a number of games in Scotland and going on loan to Yeovil last season also helped me, so I know the level. I know that this move is the right one in my career to kick on and progress.
“I can play in various positions. I played at centre-half for Swansea in pre-season but I can also play left-back. I enjoy the attacking side of the position and getting forward to provide crosses for the forward players. Hopefully I can also chip in with a goal or two as well.
“I feel comfortable in a number of positions and I don’t mind where the manager wants me to play. It is a challenge for me to come to a new club with new team-mates but it is one I’m looking forward to.”
