Boss hoping Crewe can produce another top performance at the Ricoh Arena

Steve Davis says his Crewe Alexandra squad are looking forward to tonight’s trip to the Ricoh Arena despite Tony Mowbray’s side being the in-form side in League One. The Sky Blues have already beaten Wigan 2-0 on the opening day of the season at the Ricoh Arena and they followed that up with a thumping 4-0 win away at Millwall at the weekend. They were also unfortunate to exit the League Cup at the first round stage after losing on penalties to Rochdale at Spotland.

Of course, the Ricoh Arena is one of Crewe’s favourite hunting grounds having won four and drawn two of our last six visits. Last season, a superb 3-1 win on our final away day of the season went a long way to seeing us safe in League One.

Ahead of this evening’s clash at Coventry, Steve told crewealex.net: “We have done well at the Ricoh Arena in the past. We have had some great results and scored some goals. I think the club likes playing there and it has been kind to us in the past.

“Coventry are flying at the moment. They top the league at this early stage, so we know it is going to be a tough game. It always is in front of their fans, but we have to use that to our advantage.

“We will look to take the game to them and score first. It is a good surface there and one of the finest stadiums we visit at this level and that has inspired us to get a good result there in the past.

“I am not sure why it is but we seem to play an open and expansive game there and I’m sure the players are all looking forward to it.”
