Garratt: "Positives To Take Forward"

20 August 2015

Ben Garrattt says team still needs a bit of time to gel.

Crewe Alexandra’s number one goalkeeper Ben Garratt is upbeat that results will follow the performances once a new look team gels. After collecting a point against our neighbours Port Vale on the opening day of the season, Crewe Alexandra have faced two of the fancied sides to do well this season away from home in Scunthorpe and Coventry.

The Railwaymen battled away in both encounters and with some better finishing and defending may well have collected more points. The positive has certainly been in our possession football and the fact that we have remained in games for long periods.

Last season’s Player-of-the-Season Ben Garratt knows that we have to improve in both boxes, but he believes there have been positives signs of improvement in the opening three games: “Everyone here wants to improve on what happened last season when we had to work hard to turn the campaign around.

“We have been towards the bottom of the league over the last couple of seasons and no-one here enjoys being down there. It is a tough division but we want to play more football now and move up the division.

“We’ve brought in a few new faces and they’ve all settled in well but we still need a bit of time to gel as a team. The new players have bought into the way we are trying to play and the way we want to do things. I think it looks promising for us going forward and we just need a bit of patience and improve in certain aspects.

“I want to keep as many clean sheets as possible and hopefully that will help us get results.”
