Davis Named As Club Captain

4 August 2015

H to replace Matt Tootle as skipper with boss to decide on deputy.

Harry Davis has been named club captain for the 2015/16 season. Davis will succeed Matt Tootle as captain following his departure to Shrewsbury Town in the summer. The 23-year-old defender deputised for Tootle for the majority of last season after the right-back was ruled out with an ankle injury.

Davis is struggling to make this weekend’s first game of the new season against Port Vale, so boss Steve Davis will have to appoint a deputy with the likes of Ben Garratt, David Fox, Billy Bingham and Ollie Turton in contention for the armband.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Harry is a leader. He showed that last season and has been with the club the longest after coming through the Academy. He has carried those leadership qualities into the first team and has a good influence around the place.

“He has a great fondness and association with the club and that makes him a good candidate.

“There are a few other candidates as well and one of them will captain the club against Port Vale on Saturday because of Harry’s injury. It will be a great honour for one of them and I will have a think about it over the next few days before deciding who to give the armband to.”
