Davis Dilemma Over Captain Inclusion

28 August 2015

Harry Davis may need game time before he makes first team return

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis admits that it could be a gamble to throw Harry Davis straight back into action at Wigan this weekend. Harry Davis, who has been named club captain for the 2015/16 season has not featured this season after picking up a slight knee injury on the eve of the new campaign, but he now has over a week of full training under his belt.

Harry Davis has been under consideration for a recall to the Crewe squad all week but the Alex boss will think long and hard about his centre-half travelling to the DW Stadium this weekend.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Harry is extremely close and has trained well but I have also got to consider the fact that he has not played for five weeks. He hasn’t been able to get some game time and maybe he will need that.

“Harry coming back would make a difference but I have to consider the long-term and the fact that we have 40 plus games still remaining rather than just the short-term.

“An extra week could make all the difference and we have an Under-21 game at Coventry on Tuesday that he could play in. It could be good for him to be involved in that.

He added: “He has a full week of training under his belt and I’m sure he could play at the weekend but he would be lacking in a bit of match sharpness.”
