Davis After Better Start To Games

14 August 2015

Boss says he is looking for a much better start after conceding two early goals against Preston.

Steve Davis is hoping his Crewe Alexandra side can combine a good performance with a positive result at Scunthorpe United this weekend. The Alex travel to Glanford Park on the back of a point obtained against Port Vale on the opening day of the season and a home defeat by Preston North End in the Capital One Cup.

Crewe produced a better all-round performance against the Championship side on Wednesday but couldn’t force the game into extra-time. The Railwaymen had to defend resolutely against our near neighbours Port Vale to collect a point.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “What we always strive for as a manager is to have a good performance and a good result. That is what we want from every game you play, to play well and to win. That cannot always be the case and if that happens you have to try and be resilient and make sure you become hard to beat.

“We managed to do that against Port Vale last week. We played better football against Preston but gave away two avoidable goals early on and that made things difficult for ourselves. I was pleased with the way we played and encouraged by the way we passed the ball but we just have to be better in both boxes.

“We have certainly got to start the games better. We haven’t started well in the last three games, if you include the Chester game in that, so that is something we will be looking to improve on.

“If you and start well and build some confidence then that sets you up for the rest of the game.”
