Cardiff City defender joins on free transfer

Crewe Alexandra have completed the signing of central defender Ben Nugent from Cardiff City on a free transfer.

In 2013/14, whilst the Bluebirds were in the Premier League, Nugent was sent out on loan to both Brentford and Peterborough in League One where he gained 16 appearances before playing on 29 occasions for Yeovil last season.

The Welwyn Garden City born defender rose through the ranks of the Cardiff academy and has made a total of 14 appearances for the first team, scoring one goal in their Championship promotion season of 2012/13.

Nugent spent last season on loan at Yeovil Town, but couldn’t help keep the Club in League One as they suffered back-to-back relegations from The Championship.

The 22-year-old has penned a two-year-contract with the Club and will be able for selection for the season opener against Port Vale on Saturday.
