Steve Davis says he will continue to back the change to us playing more possession football.
Steve Davis says that he will continue to show faith in his personnel and system as we travel to current league leaders Coventry City on Tuesday evening. The Alex boss was pleased with the number of decent chances we created at Scunthorpe United on Saturday but we were left ruing those missed opportunities as a Paddy Madden brace recorded a first League win for the Iron.
The Crewe boss told the club’s official web-site: “We have worked with the system and the players over the pre-season, so you just don’t throw it all away after two games. It is still very early on in the season.
“We will continue to do the work to improve us and the players will continue to adjust and gel as a team. I thought there were some positives signs to take from the performance on Saturday. We needed to be clinical when those chances came.
“The players know their role and understand their jobs. There are things to improve on and we won’t keep faith with all of them forever. We will consider all the options and will base things on how they train and how they play in the games but they deserve the chance to show they are the answer.
“I think the games have been fairly evenly balanced at times this season. We didn’t play too well against Port Vale but we managed to get a point. I thought it was a good point all things considered.
“The Preston game was about the early goals and we were in the game until the last five minutes against a Championship side.
“We then went to Scunthorpe and conceded early again, but if Brad (Inman) had managed to score before half-time after he got through then we could have gone in at half-time at 1-1 and it could have been different.
“We created enough chances to have got something from the game on Saturday but we need those chances to go in.”
