Boss On Preston North End Clash

12 August 2015

Play-off winners roll into South Cheshire for League Cup clash

Steve Davis says his Crewe Alexandra players will be looking forward to testing themselves against last season’s League One play-off winners Preston North End this evening.

The Railwaymen will be aiming to cause another cup upset in the Capital One Cup and take another Championship scalp after a night of shocks in the competition.

The Alex boss says he is unsure if Simon Grayson will look to make a number of changes for the tie at the Alexandra Stadium this evening, but he states that whatever team the Championship side elects it will be a stiff test.

Ahead of tonight’s clash at the Alexandra Stadium, Steve told crewealex.net: “Whoever Simon (Grayson) selects tonight they will be a good team. He has built a good squad there with a lot of experience.

“It will be an examination for our players to play against Championship players and they will be looking forward to it.

“They were one of the best sides at our level last season. They were very organised, difficult to break down and although they were all good players they also worked exceedingly hard for each other.

“They have players who can hurt you and their forward players made a huge difference to them in our division. Simon will know they are stepping up to a higher level in the Championship but I am they are equipped to do well in that league.

He added: “I’m unsure if he will make changes but all we can do is just focus on what we need to do. He may look to make one or two changes with one eye on the weekend but if he does then he will have one or two looking to impress him if they come in.”
