Steve Davis still determined to strengthen at the back

Steve Davis admits that he has been left frustrated by his pursuit of another left-back. The Crewe Alexandra manager has been chasing a Championship full-back for the last few weeks but has been left frustrated by a couple of set-backs.

His parent club are still trying to get him to commit to a longer contract and he picked up a slight knock that has ruled out him for at least another week.

Steve is hoping he can tie up a new more attack-minded left-back to improve his options in the final third.

The boss said: “I know I have to do something with the left-back situation and we have been left frustrated over the last few weeks with one thing or another.

“We want an athletic left-back who will be sound defensively but also offer something different in the final third. We are still hoping we can get the one over the line.

He added: “We have names in mind and other options so we hope to conclude something soon.”
