Bingham On Bury Draw

Billy Bingham frustrated by too many chances in an open game

Billy Bingham says that the atmosphere in the dressing room on Saturday was completely different to the one at the Ricoh Arena just a few days previously. Although Crewe gave a good account of themselves against the then league leaders, it was a late goal from Coventry’s John O’Brien that snatched the points in a five-goal thriller.

Fast forward to the weekend and having led twice in the game, it was Crewe Alexandra needing a wonder goal of their own from Brad Inman to secure a point against newly promoted Bury. Although Bingham readily admits that it was frustrating not to hold onto our leads, the players showed great character in the final 30 minutes of the game to emerge with something to show for our efforts.

Bingham, who created Ryan Colclough’s goal to make it 2-1 with an excellent delivery from a free-kick told the club’s official web-site: “I would have thought it was a good game to watch with plenty of chances at both ends but it was frustrating to play in.

“We took an early to go 1-0 up, which we wanted to do and then it went 1-1 and then 2-1 to us. We practice that free-kick in training, so I was pleased to play a part in that. What you tend to see is that a team that score just before half-time can take that into the second half and we found ourselves 3-2 down but the lads showed some great character to keep going.

“I felt we finished strongly and it was a really good goal from Brad to make it 3-3 and give us the point we deserved. It was a shame we couldn’t nick another one at the end but to be fair there were chances at either end and it was one of those games where it could have gone either way.

“There were too many chances in the games and that is something we will look at this week. We need to cut those chances down. We have scored five goals in the last two games and just have a point.

Billy added: “There are some positives to take from the game. We attacked really well and created chances and there is a lot to build on. We have got to tighten up as a team and if we can do that then I am sure that the first win will come.”
